Grant Park Advisory Council & Grant Park Conservancy Public Meeting: Tuesday, February 28, 2017 @ 6:30pm Field Museum/Chicago Park District trees threatened: The Field Museum plans to destroy 17, healthy linden and elm trees around the museum in the first phase and more in later phases. In their place, the museum wants to install perennial plantings instead and only replace one tree. The museum has already destroyed several beautiful elm trees and any further environmental damage should be stopped. These trees clean our air, frame the museum, and cost thousands of dollars to install. They also sit on Chicago Park District property and are owned by the Chicago Park District. We will discuss how these perennials could installed without causing the environmental and aesthetic damage of removing healthy trees. Creative Committee: We will be forming a committee to bring more arts, artists and culture to Grant Park. We will collaborate with the Chicago Loop Alliance on this initiative. Health Park@Grant Park: The Grant Park Conservancy & Advisory Council is on the forefront of creating accessible, fun, spaces that attract and encourage Chicago residents and tourists to visit Grant Park. We also want to get more people outside, moving, and improving their well-being through fitness and nutrition in lush, green, sustainable, environmentally-friendly outdoor spaces. Dr. Ross Arena, Professor and Head of Physical Therapy in the College of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago will discuss his new certificate curriculum program and how it will be integrated into the HP@GP and supported by the American Heart Association through its healthy living division.
