Dew Tour, BMX and skateboarding competition, could come to Grant Park

Redeye reports that Grant Park could add one more marquee event to its summer lineup: the Dew Tour featuring BMX and skateboarding competitions at its new skate park.

The Dew Tour could mark its return to Chicago on June 20 and 21 when competitions could be held at the three-acre skate park that opened to BMX riders and skaters in December at the southwest corner of Grant Park at Roosevelt Road and Michigan Avenue, according to Bob O'Neill, president of the Grant Park Conservancy.

If it's a go, the event - which coincides with the international Go Skateboarding Day on June 21 - would cover about six to seven acres of Grant Park including the skate park, O'Neill said. In addition to the skate park, competitions would be held where the tennis courts are located to avoid road closures, he said. There would be viewing areas, concessions and sponsorship booths on open areas of the park.
